Welcoming in the joyful ones.

I avoid unhappy people. Especially those who might be in depression. Maybe that’s not nice. I should be more empathetic. More sympathetic. I occasionally try to cheer ‘em up. But suspect that often does more harm than good. Maybe it would be best to keep my mouth shut. And listen to the bemoaning. Without giving advice. Thing is, many unhappy people don’t have to be unhappy. They choose to be. Tell them that, and I get a stare of daggers. Little wonder that I alienate. I’d really like the world to be happy. Totally. But that won’t happen. The next best thing is to create my own little world. A cocoon. Where I can shut out unhappy people. And welcome in the joyful ones. –Jim Broede
