Or forever, for that matter.

Look at the standings, folks. The Chicago Cubs are in first place. Today. We long-time, die-hard Cub fans know we could be in for a big, big letdown. We don't set our expectations too high. We settle for a few thrills. We know full well that the bottom drops out. Sooner or later. We've learned to accept fate. We've learned to think of our team as loveable losers. Our hopes have been dashed time and time again. But just the fact that we keep dreaming of the impossible. In Nirvana. That, in itself, is satisfying. A consolation. Worth savoring. The Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908. We've waited 99 years. So, what's another year or two or three? Or forever, for that matter. --Jim Broede
