...about Palin's qualifications.

In an interview on ABC News tonight, Sarah (Barracuda) Palin didn't seem to know what the Bush doctrine was. She had to be told by the interviewer that it's Bush's belief that the U.S. is entitled to start a preemptive war. As a means of protecting American interests. That's a sign that while she was a mayor and a governor in Alaska, maybe Palin wasn't paying attention to what was going on in Washington and the world. I don't deny Palin's ability to field dress a moose and to shoot wolves from an airplane and to make wisecracks about Democrats. But hey, that hardly qualifies her to be vice president, only a heartbeat away from the presidency. Pardon me. But I'm a little leery...about Palin's qualifications. --Jim Broede

Jim

Did you notice.. she could not answer a Yes or No question?

I read body Language for a Living..and she felt insecure answering the questions asked by Charlie Gibson.

The debates will be interesting..

I so hope your birthday..was one to remember..and was enjoyed..

I am off to make a couple of spinach quiche..

Have a great weekend..Live..Love and Laugh..Namaste Rosie

It's not that she didn't "seem to know" what the Bush doctrine; it was that she questioned in which respect was Charles Gibson referring to it. One needs to know the question, before one answers. The Bush doctrine is many times considered ambiguous(fyi-open to more than one interpretation).

Have you read the National Security Strategy of Sept 2002, or the update of 2006?? Interesting read!

Have you read the previous Presidents' doctrines??
Foreign Policy is very similar in many of them.

"Preemption has in fact been a staple of our foreign policy for ages -- and other countries' as well." (Washington Post)

International law has held, for centuries, that nations do not need to be attacked before they LAWFULLY take action to defend themselves preemptively.

Our enemies no longer use conventional weapons. They rely on acts of terror and the potential use of WMD(weapons of mass destruction) as their weapons of choice.

Besides ALL this, won't the McCain/Palin, Obama/Biden "doctrines" be ultimately MORE important???

Perhaps a more accurate base of political education, other than TV and/or newspapers, would be a benefit. They are only opinions, after all, and mostly construed and edited to appeal to specific audiences.

My belief is that the candidates should debate in EVERY state, between the primary and general elections; ALL televised. Live. Unedited. THAT would show who has the qualifications!

I love it. Finally, Sarah (Barricuda) Palin is getting the scrutiny she deserves. Interesting. After her initial one-on-one interview with Charles Gibson on ABC last night, folks are getting to see the real Palin. I read the hundreds of email comments posted in the Chicago Tribune after the interview. And at least 80 percent of the respondents were critical of Palin. Many suggested that she sounded like a war-mongerer. Doesn't surprise me.

Here's a typical comment: "Clearly the right wing extremists, such as Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-McCain-Palin are out to get us all killed. It is far better for President Obama to go to the UN Security Council and push for tough words in a resolution. As we know, tough-worded UN Security Council resolutions have solved tons of problems throughout the last few decades and clearly there is no better alternative. Whole nations disarm after getting the Security Council treatment. They stop enriching uranium. They stop leaders from chemically gassing their citizens. They stop genocide. They force countries to turn over war criminals to the UN War Crimes Tribunal. The UN Security Council and its sharp-toothed resolutions is all we need to make earth safe. Enough war mongering from the right wing extremists."

Another comment: "After seeing the ABC interview, Palin is not ready to be president. Anyone with even a passing interest in foreign affairs is familiar with the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive war and her not being able to answer shows that she was prepped with some set talking points and has no real inherent understanding of the issues. She is not ready to be a heartbeat away from the leadership of the free world."

Still another typical comment: "Does anyone remember that Georgia provoked Russia with military forces in their altercation? How can the United States and its Bush Doctrine contest Russia's actions when we engage in fullscale preemptive war with Middle Eastern nations that are next door to Russia? Our country does not need another war. This was the first of many interviews that will ultimately flatten Palin's credibility."

And more: "What a cocky Wacko!"
