It's immoral. Obscene.

I think it's obscene and immoral for a nation to have a high unemployment rate. Instead, it should be the obligation of government to see that jobs are created. To put everyone back to work. If that means creating massive public works projects, so be it. In other words, we'd be building a better country. At the same time that we solve a social problem. Makes so much sense. But we don't do it, I suppose, because that would require a redistribution of wealth. A new mind-set. Everybody working for the common good. Sounds a little bit like socialism. And we're all supposed to be devout capitalists. But that's exactly why we're in big trouble. Why we have an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor. Let's admit it. Capitalism is failing. It's immoral. Obscene. --Jim Broede

What do you want, a country full of namby pambie, so dependent on the government, they can't even think for themselves?? Pull up your britches, and walk like a man!

If you lose your job, so you might have to flip hamburgers for awhile, or your wife might need to get a job, or you might have to be creative, and start your own business. It is NOT the obligation of the government to "create" jobs, out of thin air. It is our responsibility to go out and find the jobs that ARE there, or create some, ourselves.

Too many people are forgetting what our government is and is not allowed to do, or to interfere with, per the Constitution.

Yes, I want our government to create jobs. Out of thin air, if necessary. If the private sector doesn't create the jobs, then it's up to the government. There's no hard and fast rule that says government can't create jobs. Yes, let's put the entire nation to work. And we'll soon eliminate poverty, or come damn close to it. --Jim

Agree with Anonymous, my husband lost his job. I had to find a job and I did. He started his own business. No one created anything for us. We worked and still do work hard for what we have. I have never had a hand out. We have everything we need. I don't need the govt. for that.

I'm sure that many of the millions of jobless people in the USA haven't been quite as fortunate as you and your husband. You've made a go of it. Setting a good example for others. But still, I think the government could do far more to create jobs. Good paying jobs, too. And jobs that get vital work done. Refurbishing and expanding the nation's infrastructure. Much of it has been neglected in recent years. It's time to play catch up by putting people to work. If we can afford paying for two wars, we can find ways to pay for creation of jobs. In fact, we'd be much better off if we diverted money from our defense budget into jobs that help boost our economy. --Jim Broede
