And become enlightened.

Tell a lie often enough and virtually every idiot will believe it. Seems to me that's the credo of the Republican party. For instance, that's the way we got into the prolonged Iraq war. We were repeatedly told lies. Such as Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. We were told: Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. One lie after another was concocted. Anyway, war is immoral in itself. But even more immoral when war is started based on lies. Now we have Republicans telling us that health care insurance reform will raise our premiums and run the nation into bankruptcy. More lies. Actually, over the next 10 years, the plan being debated by Congress would reduce the budget deficit by $130 billion. And there would be no big cost rises in premiums. You can read about the non-partisan congressional budget office's take on the matter in today's New York Times. Just click on the article below. And become enlightened. --Jim Broede

"SEC. 202.
(c) Limitation on Individual Health Insurance Coverage-

(1) IN GENERAL- Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan."

IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR OWN INSURANCE BY DAY 1 OF THE BILL, YOU AIN'T GONNA GET IT. IT WILL NO LONGER BE AN OPTION. YOU HAVE TO JOIN THE GOVERNMENT PLAN, OR FACE FINE/JAIL. INSURANCE COMPANIES CANNOT WRITE POLICIES FOR PRIVATE INSURANCE AFTER DAY1. WITHIN 5 YEARS, ALL PLANS, PRIVATE OR GOVERNMENT, WILL BE IDENTICAL.

SEC. 213 INSURANCE RATING
Your premium rates will be based on AGE, AREA, and FAMILY ENROLLMENT. MY rates will go UP, UP, UP.

"SEC. 222.
(2) ANNUAL LIMITATION-

(B) APPLICABLE LEVEL- The applicable level specified in this subparagraph for Y1 is not to exceed $5,000 for an individual and not to exceed $10,000 for a family."

I now pay a deductible of $2500.00 for my entire family. I have a co-insurance maximum of $1000.00 for my family. My MAXIMUM out-of-pocket is $3500.00. I don't know about you, but I cannot afford $10,000.

AFTER 5 YEARS, MY INSURANCE WILL HAVE TO EQUAL THE GOVERNMENT PLAN. I CANNOT AFFORD IT. Day 1, my insurance may not change, but day 1, of year 6, EVERYONE who has private insurance- our policies will change.

" the plan being debated by Congress would reduce the budget deficit by $130 billion"

Sure, it will pay the government's bills but, who is going to pay mine? I will be the one going bankrupt. They are correct. The nation's citizens will be bankrupted.

"Substantially" is such a subjective word. What is "substantial" to me is not substantial to someone getting their paycheck from Washington. They don't care, anyway. They have their own separate policies. Lump all the politicians into this one, and you better believe, this plan would not fly.

You know who is going to feel the brunt of this elephant???? THE WORKING MIDDLE CLASS, whom you lament needs help. Whom you lament as disappearing.

I would not believe all that I read, I would find out for myself.

Sounds to me like the plan is good for the vast majority of people. Maybe not for you. Sorry, if that's the case. I'm better off and so are so very many others. Those presently uninsured certainly will be better off. Guess there's trade-offs. Not everybody benefits. Maybe we'll have to fix that. We are coming much closer to genuinely serving the common good. It's better than what we've got now. Yes, better. Not worse. For most of us. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

This would move us in the right direction. Of course, we still have a lot of work to do. Eventually, I want a single payer system. In essence, Medicare for everyone. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

The total bill leaves something to be desired. Because we liberals aren't getting our way fully. We take what we can get. Bit by bit. Piece by piece. We have to fight obstructionist Republicans. Some real jerks. --Jim

Doctors may have to learn to live on less. Like the rest of us. Especially those without jobs. These are bad economic times. All the more reason for universal health care. --Jim

As you know, I'm for soaking the very, very rich. For the common good. It's the right thing to do. --Jim

Well, I am far from rich, and it is getting harder and harder. If this goes through, I may be done. Not everybody has to benefit but, why does anyone have to suffer from it???

Good for you. You make out well. Bravo. Screw everyone else. Now we see why you are so behind this. Screw the middle class, no matter what you say you feel. You only care about yourself, so why pretend something you're not. Get real.

There is still strong resistance. Guess what? Your beloved polls are swinging around! More citizens are not in favor of this bill, as it stands. People are learning what it is all about. Hopefully, the politicians will start to listen.

Broede's Broodings said...

You're probably rich compared to me. That's why you don't fare so well. I'm for Medicare for everyone. Regardless of age. That's fair. Nobody gets screwed. But if somebody gets screwed, I want it to be the well-off, the rich. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

And if the polls are turning around, it's due in part to the crap the Republicans are spewing. Lies. Distortions. The bill has been watered down enough already. I want the liberals to have their way. Completely. A single payer system. Medicare for everybody. Even for you. If that's not good enough for you, you can go out and buy a supplemental policy. You've got the dough. Meanwhile, let's be good to the people who really need coverage and don't have it. The common good be served. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

Many of those opposed to the bill are liberals. Because the bill has been weakened so much. It doesn't go far enough. We need to soak the rich a bit more. To help the lower and middle classes. To help the bulk of the population. Everybody should be guaranteed top-notch health/medical care. Not just the rich. --Jim

" If that's not good enough for you, you can go out and buy a supplemental policy."

You don't get it. ANT insurance you want, other than the "government" insurance", has to be "grandfathered" in. No purchasing any other insurance, other than the "government" insurance. Private insurance companies will be forbidden to write new policies.

The biggest drawback I see, is the complete lack of choice. If I choose to pay my own medical bills, I face jail/fines. If I stay with my current insurance, after 5 years, it will be identical to the "government insurance", and I don't want that. Eventually, I won't be with my current employer, and then, guess what? I am FORCED to get the government plan.

I want to keep what I have!!! Why is that so hard for you to get??? It is all in black and white.

NO ONE is telling me that. I am reading the BILL.

Did you also know that over 25 MILLION people will remain uninsured???

One more thing....I don't have the $$$ to travel around the world. I don't have the $$$$ to retire YET. If what you claim is true, YOU are far better off than me, as far as the bucks go. I am tremendously wealthier than you, when it comes to love and compassion, friends and family, and the knowledge that comes from learning about what I speak.

Broede's Broodings said...

The trick is to learn to live long enough to retire. Then you'll have the time to fall in love and to travel. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

I certainly wouldn't trade my friends and acquaintances for yours. I'm happy with my lot in life. You don't seem to be quite there yet. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

I'm rich in love. Maybe that's why I'm happy and satisfied. --Jim

I've learned to not put up with crap. And if somebody tries to dump crap on me, I dump it right back. Ten times. --Jim

And I also return love and affection. Ten times. --Jim

Just because I try to help you see a point, does not make me unhappy or depressed, or any of that. It is also not a "trick" for honest people to retire. It is hard work and planning. I have done my work, and I have a plan but, this proposal threatens all of it.

One more time.....I AM READING THE ACTUAL BILL, THAT WAS SENT TO THE SENATE, FROM THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND THAT THEY WILL NOW BE DEBATING. I am not listening to the TV, or radio, or the New York Times.

Why did you stop addressing the main issue, and go on a personal attack? Go read it for yourself. I am telling you that the sh*t is going to hit the fan, if this disaster passes. I don't care-Democrat or Republican-it is not right.

Another fact that was brought to my attention is that in the Constitution, it states that the Government cannot force us to purchase anything. I admit, I haven't looked that up yet but, I'll let you know.

You might want to check with a psychologist or psychiatrist. You may be unhappy or depressed without knowing it. Because it seems so natural and normal after you've lived with it for a long time. You may need help without knowing you need help. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

Seems to me your retirement plan is shaky, to say the least, if proposed health care reform threatens it. Sounds like you need a better plan. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

If you've truly read the entire bill, it could be confusing you. Over 2,000 pages, isn't it? Some parts of the bill negate other parts. If you fully understand it, you are at the head of your class. The first and only human being that understands it. Congratulations. I rely on translators/interpreters of gobbledygook. Do you speak gobbledygook? If not, you are wasting your time. It could be put to better use. --Jim

I recommend you read the New York Times for clarification. It is a reasonably trustworthy newspaper. I also rely on Keith Obermann on MSNBC. He has a liberal slant. That's why I like him. Seems very intelligent and perceptive. Just like me. --Jim

And by the way, the so-called shit has been hitting the fan for a long, long time. Nothing new about that. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

And I'm told that I have to buy car insurance. Are you telling me that's unconstitutional? At least I'm not forced to buy the crap that the Republicans are spewing. But you seem to be buying it. --Jim

I could say idiot Republicans. But that would be redundant. --Jim

My retirement plan is sound NOW. If this bill goes through, it could wipe alot of people's retirements out. Doesn't matter the planning by US.

Where do you think we are going to get $10,000 a year to pay medical expenses, on top of premiums, is going to come from. It seems like that doesn't bother you, so you must have funds enough. By the way, you may be paying more than I, simply because of your age.

I never claimed to have read the entire bill. I DO read an understandable amount at a time. Better than not reading it at all.

I do not listen to people as Republicans or Democrats. I listen to whoever is speaking, then track down the information or misinformation. That's where we are the most separate. I do not have conditional allies based on political parties, or whether they agree with me. I seek out integrity.

My primary is Medicare. And my supplemental is Blue Cross-Blue Shield. Between the two, everything is covered. Reasonably well. I also have prescription coverage. If everyone were covered by Medicare, and if we manage to reduce the cost of health services, we'll have a system that works. And we can go universal. And in the process, let's soak the rich. By the way, I ain't rich. But I don't live in poverty, either. I have social security. And a pension. Thank gawd. --Jim

Broede's Broodings said...

I listen to people, too. But I try to separate the idiots from those with some degree of intelligence. I've discovered that idiots tend to flock together. Evidenced by Republicans in congress. They don't break ranks. Because they don't have open minds. They have the minds of idiots. Closed as closed can be. --Jim
