We think our evil is a good evil.

Seems to me it's impossible to avoid being evil. Because we are tempted to fight evil with evil. Thinking that's the only way to defeat evil. So we're sucked in. We become just as evil as the evil-doer we are trying to defeat. Yes, we justify the use of evil because we think our evil is a good evil. Which is preposterous. --Jim Broede

We commit evil every time we execute a criminal for committing evil. --Jim

Think about it. In retaliating against al Qaeda, we have committed atrocities equal or even beyond the atrocities committed by al Qaeda. And how do we justify it? Because they did it first. The same way that we justified dropping atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese started the hostilities. Therefore, they got their just deserts. We perpetrated a just evil, a good evil. --Jim

You'd better watch yourself. People have been investigated for saying less.

Aren't we all under scrutiny? --Jim

My congresswoman, Michelle Bachmann, wants us all investigated. To determine whether or not we are patriots. --Jim

Maybe it's time to investigate Bachmann, too. --Jim

Let's also investigate the investigators. --Jim

Then we could investigate the investigators of the investigators. Where will it all end? Maybe with one big grand investigation. --Jim

I question a no-holds-barred strategy in combatting evil/terrorism. It's a difficult decision. If we use their same tactics, we are pulled into the gutter. Into evil. Torture, for instance. Or bogus trials. I even question the death sentence for terrorists found guilty of murder. Yes, maybe we have to treat the uncivilized in civilized ways. Maybe that's the way to teach. By being civilized. Certainly, it's a question/issue that should remain open to debate. --Jim

The fact that we are still able to debate these kinds of issues. Right here in America. That speaks well for America. My greatest fear is that we'll some day lose our freedoms because of overreaction to a threat to the nation's security. Then the evil-doers/terrorists will have won. --Jim
