A case for amnesty.

I don't know all that many illegal immigrants. But I suspect that if I knew 'em all, I'd like their nature. And their sense of adventure. Made a decision to leave their homeland and find a new life in the USA. That takes some gumption. And I'm happy to see that they think there's a better life here. Not always an easy life. Especially initially. Having to be very careful. Since they are illegal. In America, we've generally welcomed immigrants. But maybe not so much anymore. I suspect that's because most of 'em aren't white. They're Hispanics. And we've been known to treat non-whites rather harshly. That's a stain on our national identity. But I'm looking forward to the day when whites are no longer the majority. And we could hasten the coming of that wonderful day by giving amnesty to the illegals. --Jim Broede

There you go, playing that race card again. That mentality hurts race relations more than anything else.

The last decade was among the three decades with the highest number of LEGAL immigrants granted permanent residency-almost 10 MILLION. ILLEGAL is the problem here. There are very valid reasons they are classified as ILLEGAL. Why can't the illegals follow the procedures, as almost 10 million already have? Not to mention the nonimmigrants, and permanent legal residents.

Where do you draw the line? There HAS to be a control in effect, simply for the protection of the American economy. There is no country, in the world, who would welcome this amount of immigrants who would refuse to also support the adoptive country. It is only common sense.

Yes, the majority are Hispanics, due to the fact that they can walk in here.

AMERICANS should always be the majority.

Who's playing the race card? Sounds to me like it's you. You say you want the majority in America to be Americans. I assume you mean you want the majority to be white people. You little rascal. You are a racist, indeed. You'll have a conniption fit when we whites become the minority. But that'll be a good lesson for you. Living as a minority for a change. It'll serve you right. --Jim

OMG, you are so misguided, Your assumption is clearly impaired. I said what I said. AMERICANS, whether white, red, yellow, black, purple or pink, should always be the majority. Stating AMERICAN has no connotation of color or Nationality, other than AMERICAN. It is a proven fact that those who contribute to a society, will also assume responsibility for that society-the freeloaders and abusers will not. Personable responsibility goes out the window.

"we white folk" were not the only ones involved in slave trade. Americans did not bring slaves to America. The first African slaves to arrive in America came from Portuguese ships headed to Mexico, but overrun by British pirates. Africans sold their own people into slavery, as well. Did you know that people of color also owned slaves in America?

You keep being an apologist for the slave trade. Trying to exonerate white Americans. Just admit. It's shameful. No matter who's at fault. --Jim

I never apologize for other people. There isn't a black man alive in America today who has been held as a slave in the United States, and there isn't a white man alive in America today who has ever held a black man as a slave in the United States. Blacks have exclusive organizations, but it is illegal for whites to do the same.

The wealth created through the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil was, in fact, sunk by the Civil War and the destruction of the Southern civilization. The South was reduced to ruin. Any wealth built up in the United States after the Civil War has nothing to do with slavery.

Why don't you take on the cause of Black Christians in Africa? They are suffering, badly, NOW.

Slavery was abolished 145 years ago. All of our ancestors were slaves, at one time or another. Time to put on your big girl pants, and take care of yourself.

Face the truth, dear anonymous. We've had a racist society in the USA from the very day we were founded. Right up through today. Folks like you won't admit it. You'd like to whitewash reality. We still have some forms of bondage. Only it's done in more subtle ways today. The Civil war didn't come close to ending slavery. Black people living today grew up in the Jim Crow South. And the treatment they got in the North wasn't much better. --Jim

You lament about black Christians and the treatment they get in Africa. Well, the holier-than-thou Christians in the USA have a shameful record. When I went South in the 1960s, there was hardly a Christian church that was integrated. Only one in the community in which I lived. And that was a Catholic parish because the Catholics have a hierarchy that dictated integration. If it had been left up to individual parishes and congregations, black people would not have been welcomed. That was the case with Protestant denominations. Disgraceful. Many of the members of the Ku Klux Klan went to church every Sunday. To white only churches. Some 'Christians' are the most intolerant people I know. They are racists. Bigots. --Jim

Racism is still rampant in the USA. And if you don't see it, you are blind. Much of the hostility toward Barack Obama is racist in nature. Some white folks can't stand to see a black man in the White House. They think the White House was built only for white people. And the Tea Party movement is permeated by racists. You hardly ever see a black face at their rallies. I wonder why. Do you want me to give you a hint? I think you can figure it out. --Jim
