How refreshing.
I'm salvaging a good late-season feeling about my Chicago Cubs. They are showing signs of life. Genuine life. The fact that they are 9-4 since their new manager Mike Quade took over. Today, the Cubs were losing to the Houston Astros, 4-0, in the second inning. When that happens, I'm pretty much resigned to the Cubs losing. Big. Because they give up easily. At least, that's been the story this season. But lo and behold, a rookie pitcher, after getting shelled in that one big inning, settled down. Didn't allow another run. And neither did the relief pitchers in the late innings. And the Cubs won, 5-4. So very out of character for the Cubs this season. I like what I'm seeing. A team playing with an increasing amount of passion. Especially from the young ballplayers. It's beginning to look like the Cubs are becoming overachievers. Instead of underachievers. How refreshing. --Jim Broede
