I am free.
I pick my environment. In many ways, I create it. I choose where I live. And how I live. On a quiet lake. In a quiet place. I can play music. Or have complete silence. I can entertain myself. With books. With radio. TV. I can go for a walk. Or bicycling. At virtually any time of day or night. When I'm tired, I can sleep. When I'm hungry, I can eat. When I'm thirsty, I can drink. And I can think. And write. I can travel, too. Leave home. I can cultivate friendships. And I can fall in love. Best of all, I can choose to be happy. And to feel that I am free. To make all kinds of choices. Sure, I have to accept the world pretty much as it is. But in a very meaningful sense, I can create my own world. And find my own meanings. And purpose. --Jim Broede
