Fully aware of my blessings.
My true love goes to school. Five days a week. She’s a teacher. Of English and English literature. But what I like about her most is that she’s a student, too. She’s studying life. Truly tries to embrace life. Fully. Completely. Even if she isn’t always happy and satisfied. None of us have a steady, uninterrupted streak of happiness that lasts all of our lives. If we did, we wouldn’t know what happiness is. We need contrast. Some unhappiness mixed in. In order to better appreciate happiness. If I wasn’t aware of death, I’d probably not get around to fully living. One day at a time. I appreciate my true love because I could lose her. Just as I could lose life. At any moment. So I have good reason and ample incentive to savor her presence. And to be happy that I am alive and conscious. Fully aware of my blessings. –Jim Broede
