No more sentimental stuff.
I'm a Chicago Cubs fan. Primarily for sentimental reasons. Because I've followed the team since I was a youngster. But if I were running the Cubs, I wouldn't be so sentimental. I'd rebuild. And get rid of players that have been around for too long. Players that are too used to losing. So much so that they expect to lose. And that makes them mental wrecks. Near the top of the list of rejects are veteran relief pitchers Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol. They blew the Cubs season opener today. In the 8th and ninth innings. As for Marmol, he saves his share of games. Granted. But he also blows saves. Right and left. Ten of them last season. He led the league in blown saves. I'd trade him tomorrow. And make a rookie pitcher named Dolis the Cubs closer. As for Wood, he's been around longer than any other Cubs player. All the more reason to get rid of him. No more sentimental stuff. --Jim Broede
