Racists could carry the day.

I see America as a racist nation/society. But significantly less racist than it was a generation ago. The fact that Obama was elected president. That's a good sign. But there's still much hate aimed at Obama. Simply because he's black. That's the primary reason white ultra conservatives in the Republican Party want to deny Obama a second term. Because he's black. They aren't stupid enough or honest enough to admit it. Some of the Republicans may not even consciously know that they are racists. Because they are good at lying, even to themselves. I have known racists all my life. Even in my own family. Even amongst my friends. In America, one can't avoid associating with racists. They are everywhere. Despite the fact that their numbers are dwindling. But still, we'll always have racists with us. It's part of the human condition. Makes one wonder if there are natural born racists. But for the most part, racists are made. Which means they can be unmade, too. There's hope. And Americans are headed in the right direction. Could be that Obama will be reelected. Despite his blackness. Could be that a scant majority of Americans aren't racists. And that they'll turn out at the polls in November. I hope so. But there are no guarantees. --Jim Broede
