I am truly fearful.
I really do have a fear for the future of my country, the USA. Maybe
that shows that I care about America. I'm sensing what it must have been
like for fearful Germans. In the 1930s. When Hitler and the Nazis came
to power. Yes, reason to be fearful. Because a majority of Germans
greeted Hitler with open arms. Jubilantly. Not so if you were a Jew. Or a
sensible, progressive German. Unfortunately, far too many Germans were
getting carried away. Thinking of themselves as superior. In terms of
race and ethnicity. Seems to me that some conservative white Republicans
are headed in the same direction. And they could get a big assist if
Mitt Romney becomes president. I'm not equating Romney to Hitler quite
yet. But hey, I'm fearful, to say the least. I'm not a Jew. I'm not
black either. Or a woman. And I'm not gay. I'm a straight white guy.
Which would maybe make me safe. But then, I'm a liberal and a
free-thinker and a socialist sympathizer. Which could make me suspect if
white Republicans of the Michele Bachmann ilk ever gain complete
political control. Yes, then the inmates will be running the asylum.
And lord knows where that would take us. It could be bad, bad, bad.
Believe me, I don't take it lightly. I am truly fearful. --Jim Broede
