I feel young and dark-skinned.
Keep hearing that the new generation of children won't be nearly as well-off as their parents. But I'm not buying it. They may not be as affluent. As rich, monetarily. But still, they may be better off. Because of a different set of values. Maybe they'll settle for the sorts of things that I'm settlling for, as a socialist leaning political liberal, a romantic idealist, a spiritual free-thinker, a lover and a dreamer. I've got my social security and my pension -- both of them socialist-style programs. The new generation voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. So did blacks and Hispanics and women. People over 45 favored Mitt Romney. So did white males. There's a change coming. Out with the old-style capitalists. In with the left-leaning new generation liberals. I'm an optimist. The white ruling elite in America won't be ruling for much longer. Thank gawd. The new generation will see to it that the common good becomes first and foremost. And the gap narrowed between the rich and the poor. I'm an older white guy. But I feel young and dark-skinned. And my favorite people are women. --Jim Broede
