Why I talk to bad people.
I like to talk to bad people. Because it gives me the
opportunity to make them see that they are truly bad. One doesn't always
have to write off a bad anyone. Better to persuade/convince a bad
teacher that he/she is truly bad. That he/she may be doing more harm
than good. When I wrote for newspapers, I interviewed bad people. I put
the spotlight on them. But I also engaged them in conversation. Often,
it became positive dialogue. I wouldn't mind engaging a bad teacher in
conversation. Or a bad doctor. Or a bad politician. Or a bad factory
worker. We could discuss badness. And goodness, too. It might lead to an
enlightening philosophical discussion. I encounter many, many bad
people. Some of 'em I ignore. Because their badness doesn't necessarily
directly affect me. But if their badness adversely affects my friend or
acquaintance, I want the bad one to know it. To acknowledge it. And to
do something about it. --Jim Broede
