Give me a welfare state.
The so-called welfare state doesn’t scare me. Not in the least bit. That’s what I want in America. A continuation and expansion of the original New Deal under FDR. Most people need a little help. In order to survive and have a decent life. They need social programs. Social security. Medicare. Medicaid. Affordable education. Public parks. Public utilities/works. Yes, all sorts of socialism. Of course, Republicans have spent 30 years trying to sabotage the welfare state. Preferring that everyone be on their own. Sink or swim. Survival of the fittest. No matter if that creates an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor. The very opposite of the welfare state. But I know what most Americans want. A welfare state. The serving of the common good. Rather than the good of a relatively few rich money grubbers. –Jim Broede
