As lucky as a guy can get.

His name is Adriano. A kid. Maybe 12. A real entrepreneur. Selling good luck charms. Displayed on a blanket. In front of his home. In Matera. A city in the south of Italy. And my Italian true love felt she was in need of good luck. So she bit. Dished out 7 euros. For a good luck charm. A medallion. That can be worn on a chain. Around the neck.  Think she’s gonna give it away. As a gift. Maybe to her niece. Or sister in law. They are going through bad times. And in need of luck. Good luck. Meanwhile, Adriano and my true love are engaged in conversation. He’s pointing. Giving directions. To our next stop. Think it’s the remains of an ancient church. In a cavern.   Where maybe we can pray, too. For good luck. It’s been that kind of life. Especially for me. Good luck abounds. The fact that I’m living in Italy. With my true love. About as lucky as a guy can get. –Jim Broede
