Getting lost: A real delight of life.

I get lost easily. Especially when exploring a new city. In Italy. Where I am living now. Last week, I was in Bari. In the south of Italy. For the first time. With my Italian true love. ‘You are the navigator and pathfinder,’ I told my true love. ‘You are responsible for finding our way.’ I knew there was a good chance we’d get lost. Multiple times. I don’t mind. She does.  I tell her  getting lost is a great way to explore. Not knowing where we are.  And finally finding our way. In a haphazard manner. Often, accidentally. My true love likes to have her bearings. To know where we are. Most, if not all the time. And how to get to our next destination.  Pronto. She dreads getting lost. I plod. Fearlessly. I know from experience that we will find our way. Sooner or later. So I spend my time savoring what I’m seeing. While lost. That’s better than wasting time trying to find my way. Yes, getting lost and experiencing the unexpected. That’s a real delight of life. –Jim Broede
