The funny side.

In my world. Real or make-believe.  Makes no difference. Everyone has a funny side. I allow for no exceptions. That ticks off some people. Who want to be taken seriously. All the time. They think it’s rude to laugh at people. Or poke fun. Yes. Yes. I’m always looking for the funny side of life. And that can be offensive. To the humorless.   I recall. Being with Jeanne. In a book store. When she was in the mid-stages of Alzheimer’s.  Lo and behold. She reached into her pants.  For poop. Picked up a turd. And plunked it down. On a book shelve. I was aghast. And embarrassed. For Jeanne. But eventually.  I learned to laugh about it.  And I tell that story. And many others.  About the funny and often hilarious side of Jeanne.  During her 13-year siege with dementia.  If Jeanne is looking down. From her perch in the spiritual realm. She’d be laughing, too.  Because she had an innate and awesome sense of humor. I could still joke with her. Right up to the end. Could be. We’ll have a reunion some day. With both of us having our full faculties. And we’ll laugh. As we reminisce about the funny side of our wonderful lives together. --Jim Broede
