I like going to the dentist.
Got a tooth fixed yesterday. By my English-speaking Dutch dentist, Rien Uitenbosch. He’s become my favorite dentist. Not only because he speaks English. But because he’s a darn good dentist. And he’s personable. Rien makes going to the dentist a pleasurable experience. Maybe not for everyone. But certainly for me. I tell him that. Another nice thing. He and I chose the same town in which to live. In Italy. We chose other than our own native countries. Anyway, Carbonia is a relatively small town. Some 30,000 inhabitants. Small enough so that we coincidentally met each other day before yesterday. In the grocery store. I was there with my Italian true love. Rien was alone. But he has a true love, too. His wife, Monique Rach. She’s also a dentist. They’re in the same practice. Together. Nice way to live. Monique is taking off a month. Letting a dislocated shoulder heal. From a fall. I’d like to get to know both of ‘em better. Maybe I will. My true love is going in for a dental exam today. I’ll accompany her. Because I like the feel of going to the dentist. –Jim Broede
