I don't require...

Funny thing. I could be on friendly terms with people with whom I disagree. On all sorts of issues. Ideological and otherwise. Even moral issues. I wonder if that makes me strange. I don't require a friend to think like me, or to even share the same values. --Jim Broede

Jim,

I agree. Everyone else doesn't have to think exactly like I think for me to want to get to know them. Learning what they think/feel/believe about their core beliefs won't negate my core beliefs.

Ultimately, though, does it really hurt (in a mutually agreed upon give-and-take) to have your beliefs probed and challenged?

I don't think it does.

I welcome a probing and challenging of my beliefs. If my beliefs don't hold up to a probe and challenge -- well, then maybe it's time for me to consider changing my beliefs. --Jim Broede
