It costs $1 million to keep one American soldier in Afghanistan for a year. Fantastic, isn't it? And just imagine. We are sending 30,000 additional troops into Afghanistan in the next several months. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff thinks that's an utter waste of money. I concur. Kristoff says we'd be better off spending the money building schools in Afghanistan. I think I read that only 10 percent of Afghans are literate. They need education in their country far more than they need war. --Jim
Looks like America's biggest export is war. Seems to me it would be a lot cheaper and more productive to export education. Smarter, too. --Jim
