So far there's no pain.
The marvels of medicine. I had a hernia. So I went into the hospital at 8 this morning. I was in surgery at 9. I walked out of the hospital at 11. I'm at home now. Walking around. And sitting at my computer. With pain pills on my desk. But I haven't taken any yet. I'm instructed to take 'em when the pain level reaches 3 or 4 on a scale of 10. So far, I rank the pain at zero. In other words, no pain. Maybe there'll be pain later on. Hope not. I refused a general anesthesia. But they gave me novacaine. And a sedative that sent me into la-la land. Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. That I won't have to take a pain pill. And that I'll be out walking my usual six miles tomorrow Or the next day at the latest. --Jim Broede

Ah, yes, I'm not gonna escape the pain phase. I am moving rather gingerly. And I'm taking my pain pills. The local anesthesia has worn off. But I'm a brave boy. Knowing things will get better. Won't walk 6 miles today. Maybe tomorrow. Yes, I'm an optimist. --Jim
