Oh, my gawd! Physicist Stephen Hawking says that god had no role in the creation of the universe. You can get the details in Hawking's new book, 'The Grand Design.' In essence, he's saying that given the existence of gravity, 'the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason why there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke god to light the blue touch paper (fuse) and set the universe going.'
Anyway, the backers of a being called god are taking exception to Hawking's thesis. They wanna give god sole credit for all of creation. As for me, it's no big deal. One way or the other. I'm just happy that there's a universe. And that I'm in it at the present moment. I can accept life with or without god. --Jim Broede
