The making of political buffoons.
Maybe the most dangerous people in the world are ones that lack a sense of humor. That take everything seriously. Don't know how to laugh. I just finished reading Milan Kundera's novel, 'The Joke.' And much of the story is based on repercussion from a joking remark. One taken seriously by the communists in Czechoslovakia. The story's protagonist, Ludvik, was expelled from the communist party and the university because of it. And his life ended up in sort of a shambles. In large part because some people in power take life far too seriously. I recommend the novel. I found it funny. Laughable. Because it's filled with characters that take politics far too seriously. Turns out that makes them buffoons. We have ample of 'em in America. They fill the halls of Congress. --Jim Broede
