Carbonia looks older than me.

I must be old. Because I am three years older than the Sardinian city in which I am living. Carbonia was founded in 1938. I was born in 1935. Turns out Carbonia was the dream of Italian fascist Benito Mussolini. Created for 12,000 miners who supplied coal to much of Italy just before World War II. As I walk around Carbonia I reflect on the fact that virtually all of the buildings I see weren’t around when I came into the world. But hey, the place looks older than me. I suppose that’s some consolation. –Jim Broede
