Two of me would be intolerable.
I know how to get along with people. But I don’t always want to get along. Nothing wrong with that. Over the years, I have chosen to not get along. Often enough. For any number of reasons. Because it’s too difficult. Or because I’d have to compromise my principles. I’m reasonably amiable. But not everyone is. And if somebody doesn’t like me, that’s all right. After all, I don’t like everyone either. That’s the way it is. But I do get along with some people I don’t like. Maybe because they are in my life for one reason or another. So I can’t just automatically avoid them or write them off. Also, because I don’t like someone, doesn’t mean that I can’t learn to like ‘em. That has happened on occasion. We patched up our differences. Many of the people I like are very different from me. Which makes them interesting. And often, they give me a different perspective on things. On the other hand, some people I don’t particularly like are too much like me. I never had a desire to have an identical twin brother. That would seem too weird. Two of me would be intolerable. –Jim Broede
