Absolutely no chance.
If I were a politician, I don’t know how I’d act in office. Hard to say. On one hand, I’d like to stand up for principle. But then, I’d also like to get something meaningful done. So I might have to compromise. Yes, wheel and deal. Maybe that’s what Barack Obama discovered. One can't do everything and be everything. One can’t satisfy everyone. Not even one’s political base. Meanwhile, from the sidelines, I’m very judgmental about politicians. I tell them they should do this and that. But the point is, if I’m honest about it, I don’t know how I’d personally handle political office. I was on a school board once. For three years. And I decided I’d never run for public office again. It was too frustrating. I decided I had better things to do. Such as criticizing politicians from the sidelines. Especially Republicans. But I don’t know how I’d deal with Republicans if I held national office. I’d have to. Presumably in practical and effective ways. But that might be impossible. It’d drive me crazy. Anyway, I don’t worry about it. There’s absolutely no chance I’ll ever run for public office again. And even far less chance that I’d get elected. –Jim Broede
