Narrowing the gap.
It’d be nice if every living human being could reach the point of not having to work for a living. Of gliding through the waning years of life. In sort of active retirement. Doing what one wants to do. More or less a life of leisure. Turning so-called work into pleasure. I used to make my living by writing. For newspapers. Now that I’m 75 and retired, I still write. More than ever. Such as my blog. But I don’t consider it work. Strictly pleasure. And even when I was working, it was a kind of pleasure. But more so now. That’s what life should be. Boundless pleasure. It helps that I have social security and a pension and a bit of savings. Earned during my work years. And with the help of government social programs. For which I am appreciative. Of course, there are some politicians that would cutback on retirees basic needs. In the name of austerity. While giving big tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires and giant profit-making corporations. Little wonder that I’m a socialist at heart and in practice. Because I think that serves the common good. And makes for a reasonably decent life for many, many people. Yes, I like that notion. Serving the many rather than the privileged few. Narrowing the gap between the rich and poor. –Jim Broede
