A good frame of mind.
I’ve learned to take sporting events as sporting events. As inconsequential events. The outcome doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of life. In my younger days, I’d lament a loss by my Chicago Cubs or Chicago Bears. Yes, I took it very personally. Let it ruin my day or maybe even my week. By becoming obsessed over it. Losing sleep. And wondering about all the ‘what ifs.’ Maybe I still do that now. But rarely for more than a few minutes. I get on with the pursuits in life over which one has control. I can’t control a sporting event. But I can control my reaction to it. I refuse to become excessively upset, or annoyed. Better to get on with the real pleasures of life. Such as cultivating a good and positive frame of mind. –Jim Broede
