I love trees. Especially Italia trees.
I like the Italian cypress tree. Thought for a long time that they were pine trees. But no. My Italian true love educated me. They are cypress. Tall, angular trees. Evergreen. One finds them in cemeteries. Especially in Italy. But even in America. There are all kinds of cypress. With varied looks. In America, we have bald cypress. They are found in swamps. Look nothing like the Italian cypress. When I heard Respighi’s music,’The Pines of Rome,’ I pictured cypress trees along roadway. I was wrong to do that. The real Italian pines are unique. The needle-like foliage spreads at the top, giving the appearance of an umbrella. One can seek shelter under an Italian pine in the rain. As I did today. Trees. Trees. I love trees. Especially Italian trees. –Jim Broede
