I must be law-abiding.

A municipal cop in Italy is called a polizia. And in the city of Carbonia, where I am living, they have a low profile. They ride around in blue and white squad cars. And I seldom notice them. The carabinieri is a separate police force. With military bearing. And fancy uniforms. They are very noticeable. And I suspect they go out of their way to be noticed.  But no polizia or carabinieri has stopped or bothered me. So I must be law-abiding, and not look too suspicious. The carabinieri headquarters is located very prominently on Via Gramsci, the city’s main street. A new and old polizia di stato are next to each other on an inconspicuous side street.  –Jim Broede
