Nice people.

Another reason why I like getting lost. It’s a way to meet nice people. Happened in Matera. A quaint and ancient city in the south of Italy. My Italian true love and I were aimlessly looking for Hotel Sassi along a winding  network of narrow cobblestone streets and stone pathways on a steep hill. Seemed hopeless. And we were carrying and pulling our two back-packs. And nightfall was approaching. We spied a couple. And asked for directions.  They didn’t know exactly where to go. But they went out of their way. To help. The gentleman even carried my true love’s bag.  He even knocked on a door and asked for directions. Anyway, we ended up at Hotel Sassi. So thankful. For help from strangers. Matera residents.  Wish I had their names. I don’t.  Instead, I’ll just call them nice people. –Jim Broede
