Our own 'love' system.
Every day. I encounter people trying to fight systems. Political. Economic. Social. Systems of all kinds. And I tell them, don’t become frustrated. Find ways to beat the system. Maybe in little ways. By chipping away. Bit by bit. Outmaneuver the system. Italians are reputed to be good at it. But they could be far better. They aren’t good enough. I could teach the Italians a thing or two. Sometimes, I beat the system back home in America by moving away. Such as coming to Italy. Where I am now. Maybe all I’m doing is trading one bad system for another bad system. But let me tell you, dear Italians, I adore your system. Because I pretty much ignore it. I get on with my life. Creating my cocoon. Inviting in my Italian true love. And I tell her, ‘Let’s make the best of our lives. Together.’ And by golly, we do. Until she starts harping about the Italian system. Drives her crazy. And I counter by saying, ‘Come. Come. Come into our nifty little cocoon, my darling. We are fully capable of being what we are. Lovers. The best of friends. And to hell with the world’s systems. We have our own system. Built on a foundation of love, love and more love.’ –Jim Broede
