Tonight, we light a candle.

We’ve moved out of the kitchen. Eating dinner instead. In the dining/living room. Our biggest and best room. Truly for living. And dining. A long Italianate table. With six chairs. But only two of us. I like the chairs. Because they are low. Much lower than I’m accustomed  to. They bring me closer to the table top. I don’t have to raise my fork so high anymore. Gives me a feeling of closeness.  And I can see my every motion. In a large ornate Italianate mirror. Prompts me to mind my table manners. Only one thing missing. We didn’t light a candle. That will be remedied tonight. –Jim Broede
