Entitled to happiness.

I make up silly stories. And tell jokes. Yes, I seldom get serious with Alzheimer-riddled friend Ron. Better to make him laugh. Ron has graduated. To a nursing home. Now the task is finding ways to make Ron happy. And it ain’t by serious or somber talk. Ron wouldn’t understand such jabber. And maybe that’s a blessing. Ron understands good vibes though. Funny stuff. Laughter. Because Ron lives more and more in the immediate moment. It’s there. To be fully enjoyed. Only for a moment. But that’s sufficient. That’s why I keep bombarding Ron with a steady stream of ‘feel good’ moments. Flowing. One after another. Serious talk be damned. I encourage Ron to live in a fantasy world. Where he gets the major portion of his sustenance.  Nothing wrong with that. He’s entitled to happiness. Right up to the end.--Jim Broede
