My poetic way.

I may offend some poets. Because. When reading a poem, I don’t necessarily take it literally. And have no qualms about inserting myself into the poem. By relating the poem to my personal experience. Rather than the poet’s. That makes the poem more meaningful. For me. I want leeway. To interpret a poem the way I want to. In imaginative ways. Taking the poem beyond the poet’s scope. Into my realm. Don’t mind, of course, if others treat my writings the same way. Everyone is free. To take me out of context. If that helps them understand themselves. I especially offend Christian poets. Because I’m not a Christian. A free thinker/spirit, instead. Don’t intend to offend. Just do. A fact of life. Some people are easily offended. Not me. I take disagreement. As a compliment. After all, I’ve triggered thought. Meanwhile, I reserve the right. To read poetry. And to write.  My way.  –Jim Broede
