Isn't life exciting?
I make it a point. To get to know strangers. That I’m sitting next to. On my foreign travels. Such as the couple. On the shuttle bus. Taking me to the airport. In Paris. To catch my flight back to Minnesota. I know their names. Because I asked. Sanida Lukovic. She’s a medical school student. In New York City. Nedim Begovac. He’s an engineer. Looked to me. Like they’re in love. I had a good feeling about them. Right from the start. Turns out. They were both born in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the midst of a brutal civil war. That left them with a strong inclination toward social activism. Amazing. The stuff I’ve learned already. I intend to keep learning more. To maybe cultivate a social relationship. With people that used to be strangers. That I met by happenstance. Yes, the way life is meant to be. We have each other’s email addresses. Now it’s up to us. To determine what’s to come of this chance meeting. Isn’t life exciting? --Jim Broede
