I try. Not to be a super patriot. I don’t pledge allegiance.
To my country. Or any country. My allegiance is on a higher level. To creation itself.
To human dignity. Sometimes, I’m ashamed of my country. Though I can be proud,
too. But I’m not blindly obedient. My country has done much wrong. And good,
too. I differentiate. I criticize. I praise. I’m always trying to work for a
better America. Maybe that makes me a patriot. Without being super. --Jim Broede
