Sometimes, I refrain. From feeling sorry. For people.
Because when I tell them, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry for you.’ I become an enabler. I
give them legitimacy. To feel sorry for themselves. Better to show them tough
love. To give them confidence. Encouragement. To pick themselves up by their
boot straps. To do what they have to do.
To quit making excuses. To face the occasionally brutal truth. And find a way
to get on with life. There are many ways, you know. --Jim Broede
