A nice mix.

I suspect that Barack Obama is a rare man shaped in an uplifting way because he's a black man. Because he had a white mother and a black father. Yes, a very nice blend. In many respects, he's black. But he's also equally white. However, it's customary in the USA to label anyone who has even a little bit of black in him, as black. Used to be that was always to put him in a class that was discriminated against. Still is, to a significant degree. But we white Americans are getting over our prejudice. Slowly. But surely. We're even capable of electing a 'black' man as our president. Or so it seems. We'll know for sure in two weeks. I think Obama is a very sensitive man. In part, because he's the product of a black-white union. A black-white upbringing. A nice blending. A nice merger. That's what we need in this nation. A nice mix. --Jim Broede

Obama appears to still be getting most of the presidential votes at the club. Had to laugh when I overheard the following conversation:

Red-neck1 - "I never thought I'd vote for a ____ "(not nice word for a person of color)

Red-neck2 - "He ain't a ______ (the word again) He's a high yellow half breed"

Red-neck1 - Thanks for the reminder. I'll tell myself that I'm voting for his white half."

Jim---Another report from the club...and...A first hand one at that.

A man who is a Pennsylvania based, professional migrant that earns a hefty amount of money traveling the East Coast 6 months a year providing a service to a particular industry and frequently challenges Charlie to a game of pool, voted for McCain. During our conversation, he was was unable to pin-point a reason.

I hope that the unspoken reason was that he was one of the few individuals who earns more than $250,000 a year and did not want to see his taxes increase...but....
