I have to admit that Alexander gives us something to think about. But when it comes to condescension, liberals and conservatives are about equal. That's why we have so much gridlock in Washington. It really takes two to tango, and two to gridlock. --Jim

I often try to treat Republicans the same way that they treat non-Republicans. In condescending ways. That's fair, isn't it? And I sometimes try to treat evangelicals the same way they treat non-evangelicals. And I sometimers treat racists the same way they treat other people. But I try to love my enemies. Too often without success. But I'm working on it. --Jim

Seems to me that condescension leaves room for humor. Ruthlessness doesn't. --Jim

Politics often boils down to the lust for power. And power corrupts. --Jim

Politicians have been groomed to insult each other. That's part of the game. --Jim

Even when politicians act nice to each other, they're really faking it. It's a way to sneak up and knife your opponent in the back. Et tu, Brutus. --Jim

By the way, there are decent and respectful and intelligent conservatives. Such as David Brooks, who writes a column in the New York Times. George Will isn't too bad either. He's a Chicago Cubs fan. A sure sign of brilliance. --Jim
