Hear ye! Obama has it right.

I'll tell you why we need a public health insurance option. Because if we are left to the whims of the private insurers, we'll get screwed. Health insurance will become more unaffordable for most of us. Because the insurance companies will continue to raise the rates. Astronomically. So they can make billions of dollars in profits and pay their executives multi-million dollar salaries. And they'll get away with it. Unless we have reform that includes a public option. Yes, competition for the private insurers. We Americans still have an opportunity to make it known that we'll settle for nothing less than a public option. We can either listen to the obstructionist Republicans or to Barack Obama. --Jim Broede

That is pure bullshit. How can the rising costs of medical care be to blame when-in my case- a $69,000 hospital bill is reduced to $10,700, because that is what the insurance company has determined is an allowable amount? The healthcare community is not receiving the exorbitant amounts, because the insurance company refuses to pay. Fine, but don't blame the cost of care!

And, a big point, why is Blue Cross still "non-profit"??? That boggles the mind!!!!

We need a comparable, lower-cost alternative, but don't take away the freedom to choose the plan we want, which is what the first reform package would have done. Not to mention raise premiums and deductibles. We need a useful plan.

Unfortunately, in life we can't all choose exactly what we want. Isn't practical. Doesn't work. Sometimes we have to sacrifice for the common good. And that's no bullshit. It's called reality. And fairness. --Jim

It's also called compromise. Something our politicians have lost track of. --Jim

We can't all do as we damn please. Because we inconvenience others. But at least I can pretty much say what I want to say. I can have an opinion. Right or wrong. --Jim

I favor liberal interpretations. No secret about that. I'm a liberal and a free-thinker and a romantic idealist and a lover. I look at life through those prisms. --Jim

It'd also be nice if we all could agree on the facts. But the facts are often elusive. And we interpret the same facts in different ways. We bend the facts in our favor. --Jim

My facts are on paper, right before me. If a hospital says their charge is $69K, why are they willing to settle for $10K? What if the cost of the hospital stay WAS $69K? The hospital is forced to either accept a much lesser amount, or be kicked out of the insurance participation.

What I clearly said was, the FIRST proposal took away our choice, raised premiums, and deductibles(at least mine would have doubled). It is also in print, in black and white. No gray area there.

NO, it is not fair to expect almost 304 million citizens(not to mention the illegals) to have their choices eliminated, and be forced to carry the same insurance. Insurance is something we are free to purchase, and choose, guaranteed by the Constitution. I don't inconvenience anyone else, by my choice of health insurance. THAT is bullshit.

You seem to look at life through your liberal-slanted newscasts, and your computer blog. Those hardly represent reality. Well, maybe for you.

The thing is, if you didn't have insurance, you'd have to pay $69,000. That's how the hospital makes money. Off the uninsured. Maybe they'll put a lien on your home. --Jim

Why do you think we need health care insurance reform? --Jim

I'm not saying we don't. Just the opposite. However, we need an option, not a health plan that we have no choice in.
