A moment of happy respite.
Bobby McFerrin has a song called 'Don't worry, be happy.' I try to listen to it occasionally. And I ask myself if it's necessary to worry all the time. I find that very often things that I worry about, I really didn't have to worry about. Somewhere along the line, I learned acceptance. For instance, that my Jeanne would die some day of complications from Alzheimer's. But I learned to take life one day at a time. Knowing that I had Jeanne today. And so, I savored the day. And I savored Jeanne. And I tried to worry less and less and less. Often, it worked. One might ask, 'Do I need to worry?' Maybe not. Do I need to learn acceptance? Maybe yes. Acceptance helps to offset the worry. Dilutes the worry a little bit. Are you familiar with the McFerrin ditty? If not, listen to it. On YouTube. Maybe it'll give you a moment of happy respite. A smile. --Jim Broede
