Serving the common good.
Sometimes, I think I’m too nice. That I give people the benefit of the doubt. Even people I disagree with. And they take advantage of it. By not giving me a similar benefit of the doubt. They don’t reciprocate. I try to take life as a two-way street. With lots of give and take. Nobody should be entitled to far more take than give. There should be some semblance of fairness. Often, in society, we have many, many takers. But few givers. The rich tend to take from the poor and the middle class, it seems to me. But give far too little in return. That’s why the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. Ain’t fair. And I think that’s what breeds the current unrest in the world. The wave of public protests in places such as Egypt, Tunisia, Albania. And what should be happening in the USA. But isn’t. At least not to the degree that I’d like to see it happening. Things are out of balance in this world. In way of political, social and economic systems. The elites and the big-money interests have been allowed to run the show. For far too long. And I’m hopeful that in the 21st century, that’s gonna change. Significantly. And that finally the common good will be served. –Jim Broede
