Getting to the heart of our politic.
Learning to accept life as it is. Maybe that’s the important lesson. Adapting. Making the best of the situation. One is born into a world. By happenstance. Don’t get to pick one’s parents. Or circumstances, initially. Then choices enter. Giving one some flexibility. A degree of freedom. Or so it seems. Maybe one is born blind or deaf or into a Third World country. Where opportunities are more limited than, let’s say, if born into a rich family in America. Even might make a difference if born black or white, or with high or low intelligence. Suppose one can say, it’s everybody for himself/herself. But that’s a callous approach to life. I keep coming back to the notion that we’re all in this world together. And that we’ve gotta do things collectively. To help each other. Especially to help the least fortunate. Call it a societal obligation. And how is this accomplished? That’s the question. To not only ponder. But to come up with definitive answers. Maybe that should be the issue at the heart of our politic. –Jim Broede
