Only as fertilizer for my fields.

Here’s my guess. Some things in life are so corrupting that one can’t help but become corrupted. That is, if one participates. In politics, for example. That’s the nature of politics. Anyone that touches it is contaminated.  Oh, one’s intent might be honorable. Going in with the aim of cleaning up the mess . But the filth and rot is so pervasive, that it’s impossible. One gets caught in the muck. Quicksand. One is pulled down. Buried alive.  Swallowed by the political system. Of course, the natural born politicians don’t mind. They like the stench of politics. For them, it’s a sweet aroma. They swoon with pleasure.  Like a farmer being on his field right after the honey wagon  passed. Then there’s the gratification that comes with the manipulative process. To hold power. To have access to the big-money interests. To the tycoons. To millionaires and billionaires. To be able to accept a bribe. Discreetly. To play the game. To be in the spotlight. May take the selling of one’s soul. But to a politician, that’s a cheap price. A good investment. After all, a soul is only a soul. Plenty of ‘em on the open market.   Yes, souls that used to belong to politicians. Not sure that I’d pay two cents for a Republican soul. Unless I desperately needed fertilizer (manure) for my fields.  –Jim Broede
