The king of Paradise.
Snowed yesterday. Not much accumulation.
But yes, that was wind-whipped snow flying in my face. And I thought, how nice. Such a long time
since last experiencing snow falling from the sky. It doesn’t snow when I’m
living with my Italian true love in Paradise.
In Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean
Sea. Not that I would object. It’s simply too warm, too idyllic.
Snow has been banished. Though
Sardinians do complain about the cold. Despite above-freezing temperatures. All
the time. Palm trees. Cacti. Blooming flowers year round. But still, complaints. A sign
that the natives are – well, spoiled. Meanwhile, I take what I get. Back in Minnesota for a while. Still
some snowdrifts. Receding. Still ice on my lake. But melting. And some day
soon, spring will arrive. I can wait. Because winter ain’t all that bad. Come to think of it. Paradise
is everywhere. And I’m the king. –Jim Broede
