Worshipping the weather gods.

Here I’ve been wondering. Where has winter gone? From my little perch. In east central Minnesota. Near the Wisconsin border. We’ve had virtually no snow on the ground. All winter. And temperatures mostly 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Of course, I’ve had no complaints. But a notice has been posted. By the weather gods. We’re in for a rude awakening.  Sunday night and into Monday. A foot of snow. On the way. Followed by the coldest blast of Arctic air. In the past 20 years. Wind chills of minus 40 degrees below zero. Daily highs remaining well below zero.  For several days. Yes, we Minnesotans. Are about to be out to a scary hardiness test. .The good news. By next weekend. The temperatures are supposed to be back up into the mid-20s. Above zero, that is. Believe it or not. A fast reprieve. Hope it ain’t a cruel joke. Why is it? That I’m a Doubting Jim. When I should be showing resounding and jubilant faith. In my worship of the weather gods. --Jim Broede
